Boston : Dutton & Wentworth, 1833. The Institution had been in operation for five months and wanted to report to the public. Some people are born blind, but the greatest number become blind by disease or accident. There was a brief history of the education of the blind and how it was done in various European locales. Money spent on educating the blind was money well spent. Don't coddle the blind child--teach him or her to read and write, have a useful skill, and to fit into society. The local facility was trying to use all the good ideas Dr. Howe saw in Europe and invited the public to visit the Institution. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
