House No. 55 On March 9, 1840, five men were made a committee to consider repealing the law of 1839 on Rainsford Island. On March 12, 1840, the men submitted a report. The state had always paid all the expenses of the quarantine facility on Rainsford Island, but it was time for Boston to assume those costs. An Act relating to Rainsford Island, 1840. Ordered, that Messrs. Griswold, of Buckland, Patten, of Boston, Cheever, of Charlestown, Richardson, of Phillipston, Wilkins, of Marblehead, be a committee, to consider the expediency of repealing the law enacted April 3, 1839, relating to the quarantine, on Rainsford Island.
