Senate. Special Comm. on an Act for Regulating Wooden Buildings. Act for regulation of wooden buildings in Boston, 1835
|
|
Senate No. 71 On April 4, 1835, a special committee of the Senate considered a House bill and reported it with amendments: An Act for the further regulation of the erection of wooden buildings in the City of Boston, 1835. There were limits and restrictions for wooden buildings, firewalls, etc., with stiff fines for non-compliance. However, the requirements varied in different areas of the city. The law would not take effect until approved by the voters. The Senate amendments required slate roofing and the approval vote had to be held within sixty days.
