1646, Moderate and safe expedient
|
|
1646 document, A Moderate and Safe Expedient, with a note prefixed to it, indicating that this was the last of the "Maryland Colonization Tracts." The document appealed to Parliament to grant Catholics freedom of religion or to sell their property in England and immigrate to Maryland. The second part was written earlier as a defense of Lord Baltimore's planned Catholic colony. This tract was printed as part of Calvert's case before Parliament where a bill was pending to repeal his charter. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the John Hopkins University Library, John Work Garrett Library)
