Joint Select Comm. on Amendment of Liquor Law. Report, 1861
SEE ALSO 56391 Fortieth Legislature. House. No. 60. Report of the Committee on Amendment of Liquor Law [1861] There were many requests for
amendments, but many pleas to leave it alone. The law had been voted in during a state-wide election, so tampering with it was not a good idea. However,
some communities did not enforce it, so increasing penalties would have little effect. The Committee had one addition: An Act explanatory of an act
for the suppression of Drinking houses and tippling shops approved March 25, 1858, 1861. The words "intoxicating liquors" shall include all malt
liquors, e.g., beer. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Maine Historical Society Library, the Maine State Library, and the
Library of Congress).
