|
Thirty-seventh Legislature. Senate. No. 22 Resolve in relation to the settlement of public lands [1858] Mr. Silverman, a German, pointed out that many north Germans were coming to the United States, but they were not coming to Maine. The Legislature authorized the land agent to contract with immigrant parties for settlement of 25-100 families on a township, paying 25c/acre--half at the time of the contract and the other half in five years for farms of 200 acres. There were obligations for clearing the land and building a house within certain time frames. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
