1841 Report of the Joint Select Committee appointed to examine the list of votes given in all towns and cities and plantations of the state for the governor. After reviewing the returns and some irregularities, the committee determine that no candidate received sufficient number of votes to be declared the winner. Thus under the state constitution, the top four be voted on by the House to determine the top two; the governor would be elector by ballot in the Senate.
