Remy, Ka Moolelo (History of) Hawaii, 1862
Ka Moolelo Hawaii; Histoire de l’Archipel Hawaiien (Illes Sandwich); Texte et traduction precedes d’une introduction sur l’etat physique, moral et
politique du pays: by Jules Remy, octavo, tp+lxxxv+tp+254p, Paris, Librairie A. Frank, and Leipzig, Franck’sche Verlags-Buchhandling, 1862. This unusual
book comprises a curious collaboration between Mr. Remy and students of the prestigious Lahainaluna School on Maui. A group of the latter wrote a
history of Hawaii in the Hawaiian language under the guidance of one of their professors entitled Ka Moolelo Hawaii. My Remy reprints that Hawaiian text
with an accompanying translation in French on pp. 1-254 of this work. As an introduction to the main work he also provides in French on pp. i-lxxxv an
extensive background essay on the physical, moral and political conditions in Hawaii.)
