History of the Hawaiian or Sandwich Islands; Embracing their antiquities, mythology, legends, discovery by Europeans in the Sixteenth Century, re-discovery by Cook; With their civil, religious, and political history, from the earliest traditionary (sic.) period to the year 1846: 4th ed. with an appendix, by James J. Jarves, octavo, iv+5-242p, Honolulu, Henry M. Whitney, 1872. (Earlier editions were published in 1843, 1844 and 1847. The 1844 ed. is also offered on this site. The most valuable portion of this 4th edition is perhaps its anonymously compiled and authored appendix, pages 202-242, which provides a wealth of statistical information on the people and economy of the Hawaiian Kingdom in the late 1860s. An historical curiosity is the appending of 12 pages of contemporary advertising matter on a variety of services and products following page 242.)
