Description and Holding Information
1790-1854, Curtis' Condensed Supreme Court Rpts., 5ed, 22v
Reports of decisions of the Supreme Court of the United States; With notes, and a digest; Revised with reference to the latest decisions: by B.R.
(Benjamin Robbins) Curtis, Vol. 1-22, Boston, Little, Brown, 1855-56, all published. (Curtis (1809-1874) was an associate justice of the Supreme Court.
His abbreviated version of the official U.S. Reports series was intended to fill a need for a cheaper source of these important legal documents. Curtis
achieved his economies by editing out much interesting, but essentially extraneous, matter such as notes of the arguments of counsel and the much
fuller statements of the cases that were habitually included by the earlier reporters. Curtis’ work condensed the U.S. Reports from 1790-1854, Vols. 2-58
U.S. His work was continued by Mr. Justice Samuel Miller, who condensed U.S. Vols. 59-67 U.S., 1855-1862, into 4 volumes. The Miller title is also
offered on this site.)
