1787. Together with the Journal of the Federal Convention, Luther Martin’s Letter, Yates’s Minutes, Congressional Opinion, Virginia and Kentucky
Resolutions of ’98-’99, and other illustrations of the Constitution. Second Edition, with considerable additions, collected and revised from contemporary
publications, by Jonathan Elliot. Published in five volumes, under the sanction of Congress, by J. B. Lippincott & Co. (Philadelphia 1866). Contents
include, in vol. I, Elliot’s prefaces to the first and second editions and documents including the text of the Constitution, letters, amendments
proposed and other documents; in vol. II, debates from Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania and Maryland; in vol. III, debates
and proceedings in Virginia, including the Bill of Rights and proposed amendments; in vol. IV, debates in North Carolina and South Carolina and
additional proceedings including submissions of James Madison, Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton. Volume V is titled Debates on the Adoption of the
Federal Constitution, in the Convention held at Philadelphia in 1787, with a Diary of the Debates of the Congress of the Confederation as reported by
