Langdell, Summary of Equity Pleading, 1883 (2nd edition)
A Summary of Equity Pleading, by C. C. Langdell, Professor of Law in Harvard University. Second Edition published by Charles W. Sever and Company
(Cambridge 1883). xiii + 282 p. Contents include the Introduction, Pleading in the Ecclesiastical Courts, and Origin and Nature of Equity Jurisdiction
and Procedure; chapters on The Bill, The Answer, the Replication and Subsequent Pleadings, Demurrers and Pleas, Cross-Bills, Bills for Discovery,
Purchase for Value without Notice, Discovery and Relief, and Production of Documents, with an Index. (The Note to the First Edition (1877) states that this
work was “designed, primarily, to form a supplement to a collection of Cases in Equity Pleading, which has been used as a text-book in the Law School
of Harvard University during the last three or four years. As some persons, however, may want the Summary who will not care for the Cases, and as
there is no necessary connection between the two, it has been thought advisable to issue the former separately.”)
