original work was written, the Practice Act was in force in California—since that time the Civil Code and Code of Civil Procedure have been adopted. …
[W]herever a code is cited without giving the name of the State, the codes of California are intended.” Each volume is separately paginated and has a
table of contents, but not an index. (At time of writeup, volumes 1 and 2 were available, but not volume 3.)
