1868-1923, U.S./U.K., George Rodney Burt (U.S.) v. Great Britain (G.B. Answer)
Pecuniary Claims Arbitration: George Rodney Burt, Answer of His Britannic Majesty’s Government: 140p., Place of publication and publisher not
identified, 1920s. (This is one of a series of Pecuniary Claims between the United States and Great Britain. In 1868 Burt, a U.S. Citizen, purchased land in
the Fiji Islands from native chiefs. The native chiefs relinquished their sovereignty to Great Britain in 1874. Burt’s claim to the property was
disallowed by the British Governor. The Arbitration Tribunal found for the United States and awarded £10,000 in damages. Great Britain’s Answer sets out
their argument. The decision may be found in Reports of International Arbitral Awards, Volume VI, pp. 93-99.)
