present 1877 edition has but one volume. The verso of the title pages lists two copyright dates, 1876 and 1877. Chase is designated on the title page
as an assistant professor of municipal law at the Law School of Columbia Col-lege. Yale’s copy, and therefore the microfiche version, lacks pp.15–16)
