New Law-Dictionary, 1772
"The ninth edition; With Great Additions and Improvements, from the latest reports and statutes to this time; Also many new titles, not in any other
work of the kind; Originally compiled by Giles Jacob; Now corrected and greatly enlarged: by Owen Ruffhead and J. Morgan, unpaginated (979 pp.),
London, pr. by W. Strahan and M. Woodfali for J. Beecroft, et al, 1772. (According to the preface in this edition, the eighth edition was some-thing of an
embarrassment, "being very defective and erroneous, and almost wholly engrafted, with many of its imperfections, into another compilation by a person
formerly engaged to render it more perfect. Under these circumstances … the proprietors resolved to publish a ninth edition, and not to spare any
expense to have it corrected and enlarged. So as to merit the acceptance of the public."—Pref. 1dt page. This edition was only half finished by Ruffhead
at the time of his death. Morgan was commissioned by the publishers to complete Ruffhead‘s work.)
