Atlay, 1897, Trial of Lord Cochrane
The trial of Lord Cochrane before Lord Ellenborough; With a preface by Edward Downes Law: by J.B. Atly, xii+529p, London, Smith, Elder & Co., 1897.
(A TOC is provided on p. vii. An index starts on p. 521. Lord Cochrane was put on trial for fraud and found guilty. His allies and heirs claimed that
the trial was unfair. In his preface Edward Downes Law describes why he considers this book to be a justification of the actions of his grandfather,
Lord Chief Justice Ellenborough, in the conduct of Lord Cochrane’s trial. Apart from its intrinsic interest, the book also provides a very interesting
account of civilian life and service in the English navy at the time of the Napoleonic wars.)
