1874, Report of Gov. Grover on the Modoc War
|
|
1874 Report of Governor Grover to General Schofield on the Modoc War, an armed conflict between the Modoc Native Americans and the United States Army in northeastern California and southeastern Oregon from 1872 to 1873. Also included were reports by Maj. Gen. John F. MIller and General John E. Ross which were submitted to the governor, as well as a letter from the Secretary of the Interior on the Wallowa Valley Indian "question." Of note, in the latter part of the 1870s, that tribe was forcibly removed from their homeland in the Wallowa Valley of northeastern Oregon onto a significantly reduced reservation in the Idaho Territory.
