House. Comm. to Confer with the Western Rail-road. Report, 1842
House No. 41 On February 12, 1842, three men were named a Committee to talk to the Western Railroad about the state scrip. On February 22, 1842,
the Committee made its report. The railroad did not say positively what scrip would be returned, but they did plan to return whatever was not needed
for construction. Of the $4,000,000 loaned, somewhat over $256,000 was still in the hands of the railroad's treasurer. (Digitized from a microfilm
copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
Title:   Ordered, that Messrs. Persons, of Gloucester, Thomas, of Charlestown, and Dwight, of Boston, be a committee to confer with the directors of the Western Rail-road, and ascertain whether said directors intend returning any portion of the state scrip loaned that corporation in lieu of the assessments lately called for on the shares of the state in said rail-road.
