House. Special Comm. on Purchase of the West Boston and Canal Bridges. Report, 1842
|

House No. 337 On February 19, 1842, a Special Committee of the House, in response to an order, submitted a report. The Committee thought it would
be good for the State to purchase the West Boston and Canal bridges and make them free as soon as possible. The West Boston Corporation was willing
to sell, with a price determined by a disinterested panel. The Canal Bridge Corporation was willing to sell for $60,000, but the Committee countered
with $54,000. The state could recoup the purchase price and build a repair fund of $30,000 within twelve years or less. An Act relating to the Canal
Bridge, 1842. The Treasurer could issue scrip of $54,000, with 5% interest, redeemable after eight years. The agent for the Warren Bridge would care
