House. Comm. on the Judiciary. Report on mortgages of personal property, 1842
SEE ALSO 53521 House No. 29 On February 15, 1842, the Committee on the Judiciary, in response to an order, submitted a report: the law on
mortgages of personal property was able to be perverted in listed ways, so the Committee prepared a bill: An Act concerning mortgages of personal
property, 1842. The time of the mortgage could not be longer than a year. The mortgage had to be recorded with the town clerk in the town where the
mortgager did the most business. The distance between the two parties was a factor in notices. Payments against the debt had to be recorded where the
mortgage was registered. Multiple chapters of the Revised Statutes applied to the process. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by
the Library of Congress).
Title:   Ordered, that the Committee on the Judiciary inquire into the expediency of making any alterations of the law concerning mortgages of personal property.
