House No. 24 The Committee on the Judiciary reported: An Act to abolish imprisonment for debt, except in cases of fraud, 1842. No person could
be imprisoned on any civil process for debt or contract demand. A creditor could allege fraud and take an oath before a Justice of the Peace. If the
debtor were arrested on the allegation, he could take the Poor Debtor's Oath and there would be a hearing about the allegations. (Digitized from a
