House No. 23 On February 10, 1842, the Committee on the Judiciary, in response to an order, considered the tenure of judicial officers and sent:
Resolve providing for the amendment of the Constitution, 1842. With the proper legislative vote, the amendment would be considered by the next General
Court and then go to the state's voters. Judicial officers would serve only until age 70. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held

Title:   Ordered, that the Committee on the Judiciary consider the expediency of so amending the constitution of this Commonwealth, as to provide that no person, who shall hereafter be appointed to the office of Judge of the Supreme Judicial Court, Judge of the Court of Common Pleas, or Judge of Probate of Wills ... .
