House. Comm. on Printing. Report on cost of printing, 1842
House No. 21 On February 7, 1842, the Committee on Printing, in response to an order, issued a report. Was there a way to cut state printing
costs? For the past few years, printing costs had been high because of reports from Commissions and various surveys, but the surveys had been completed
and some Commissions closed, so the costs should go down. The Committee offered suggestions such as smaller font size, etc. to cut costs. They were
not in favor of the lowest bidder system at all, fearing "cheapest" meant poor quality. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by
the Library of Congress).
Title:   Ordered, that the Committee on Printing take into consideration the subject of the annual expenses of printing in the several departments of the government, and report whether such expenses may not be reduced without injury to the public service ... Report.
