House. Judiciary Comm. Report on petition of K. Danforth, 1842
House No. 9 Keyes Danforth petitioned for a law to prevent Williams College students from voting in local elections. The Judiciary Committee
reported that it did not feel legislation was necessary. If the students were temporary residents, the election process should weed them out. If a
student fulfilled all the residency requirements, then he could vote. The election laws were adequate for the task if they were properly enforced.
