|
|
SEE ALSO 52169 Senate No. 62 On February 21, 1842, the Joint Standing Committee on Prisons reported that it had considered the reports of the inspectors, warden, etc. [Not included] Two things stood out: the prison needed to expand its workshops to provide activity for the inmates and to make more money and the chaplain vigorously urged shorter sentences for some crimes, which should interest the Commissioners of the Criminal Code. The Committee had visited the prison and were impressed with its administration. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
