Senate No. 61 On February 21, 1842, the Committee on Railways and Canals responded to a petition with a bill: An Act to establish the Fitchburg
Rail-road Company, 1842. Four men were incorporated as above, subject to Chapters 39 and 44 of the Revised Statutes, to locate and construct a railway
on the defined route. No dollar amount of capital stock was mentioned, but there could be 15,000 shares. The project had to have at least one track
completed within three years. No other railroad company could use the Fitchburg track without permission and Fitchburg could not use another
company's track without permission. The Legislature could adjust the tolls within the usual limits. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally
