Joint Comm. on the Militia. Act in addition to the serveral acts concerning the Miltia, 1842
|
|
Senate No. 48 The Joint Committee on the Militia received petitions from militia men asking to be relieved from purchasing equipment bonds. The Committee reported a bill: An Act in addition to the several acts concerning the militia, 1842. Commissioned officers were responsible for all equipment issued to their companies; they could be sued for failure to care for same. In case of discharge or death, two fellow officers had to certify that a man's equipment was returned in good condition; if a unit was disbanded, all the equipment had to be returned in good condition to the Adjutant General. The requirement for a bond was repealed. Statistical reports were required by certain dates. The inspector general was paid $25/year. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
