Joint Comm. on the Militia. Act in addition to the serveral acts concerning the Miltia, 1842
Senate No. 48 The Joint Committee on the Militia received petitions from militia men asking to be relieved from purchasing equipment bonds. The
Committee reported a bill: An Act in addition to the several acts concerning the militia, 1842. Commissioned officers were responsible for all
equipment issued to their companies; they could be sued for failure to care for same. In case of discharge or death, two fellow officers had to certify
that a man's equipment was returned in good condition; if a unit was disbanded, all the equipment had to be returned in good condition to the Adjutant
General. The requirement for a bond was repealed. Statistical reports were required by certain dates. The inspector general was paid $25/year.
