Senate No. 41 On February 10, 1842, the Committee on Railways and Canals submitted a bill: An Act to establish the Northampton and Springfield
Rail-road Corporation, 1842. Five men were incorporated as above, subject to Chapters 39 and 44 of the Revised Statutes, to locate and construct a
railroad, located as detailed, to meet the Western Railroad in Springfield. Capital stock of $400,000 was allowed, to be sold in $100 shares. The
Corporation could build a bridge over the Connecticut River for both rail and road traffic and could charge a toll. The usual stipulations about toll
reduction applied, and the railroad had to be completed in three years. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of
