Senate No. 34 On February 9, 1842, the Joint Committee on Prisons, in response to a petition from the Inspectors of the State Prison, submitted a
bill: An Act concerning lunatic convicts, 1842. The prison physician was to report insane convicts to the municipal court judge in Boston. That judge
was to investigate the situation and could order the prisoner sent to the state lunatic hospital. If he did not, the prisoner remained in the state
prison. If the prisoner were restored to sanity, he was remanded back to the state prison to serve out his sentence. (Digitized from a microfilm

The Joint Committee on Prisons, to whom was committed the memorial of the inspectors of the state prison, praying the removal of lunatic convicts from said prison, respectfully report the accompanying bill.
