SEE ALSO 53292 Senate No. 33 On February 8, 1842, the Joint Standing Committee on Agriculture, in response to a request to continue the silk
bounty and to encourage the industry of women, submitted a report: the climate in Massachusetts was good for the product. With good management,
producers could do well, and there was a market for the product. The Massachusetts bounty was finally producing results; New York had even adopted the
concept. An Act to continue in force certain acts in relation to the culture of silk, 1842. The bounty would be extended for three years beyond its

Ordered, that the Committee on Agriculture be requested to consider the expediency of offering a bounty on the manufacture of silk into thread for sewing and hosiery, to encourage the domestic industry of females in the production of this article.
