Senate No.n30 Having seen the report on the Agricultural Societies, should there be any other laws to further promote agriculture? In February,
the Joint Standing Committee on Agriculture submitted a report: Each Society was supposed to report in October to request the state allowance in
proportion to the amounts in their treasuries. In January, they were supposed to report on what they had done with the money. The Committee noted
considerable negligence in reporting, so it submitted a bill: An Act in relation to Agricultural Societies, 1842. Each Society was to make an October report
as part of its subsidy request, but if a Society failed to report, there would be no subsidy. Each Society was to make a January report explaining
its use of the subsidy; without that report, there would be no further subsidy. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the

Ordered, that the returns from agricultural societies, transmitted to the Senate by the Secretary, together with the abstract of said returns, be committed to the Committee on Agriculture, with instructions to inquire into the expediency of making further provision by law for the promotion of agriculture.
