Joint Standing Comm. on Roads and Bridges. Act relative to rail-roads, 1842
|
|
Senate No. 27 In early February 1842, the Joint Standing Committee on Roads and Bridges reported a bill: An Act relative to Rail-roads, 1842. Town selectmen could ask a railroad to move its track above or below grade, but if the railroad ignored the request, the selectmen could appeal to the County Commissioners. If the the Commissioners agreed with the town, the railroad had to pay the cost of the appeal, but if the Commissioners did not recommend action, the town had to pay. If the railroad still refused to act, the town had to sue in court. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
