Senate No. 21 On January 29, 1842, a Special Committee, in response to an order, submitted a bill: An act concerning the taxation of costs in
actions, 1842. No defendant or plaintiff could be allowed fees for attendance before or after the actual court date and only for work actually performed.

Title:   Ordered, that Messrs. Tarbell, Cross and Fay be a committee to consider the expediency of amending the present laws in relation to fees for the attendance of parties in civil actions.
