House. Order to appoint a commission to inquire into purchase of the Canal and West Boston bridges, 1841
House No. 78 Mr. Meriam submitted an order on March 11, 1841. The Governor would appoint five men to inquire into a state purchase of the Canal
and West Boston Bridges. Tolls would be allowed to recoup the purchase price and build a repair fund. The men should also see if a town would be
willing to manage the bridges and should work out a plan for the bridges to be public highways. The Legislature would expect a report at its next
session. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
