House. Select Comm. to Consider Reducing the Expenses of the Government. Report, 1841
House No. 76 On March 3, 1841, a Committee to consider reduction in government expenses also was presented with many petitions for the reduction
in government salaries. The Committee reported that the legislative clerks had their salaries cut, the Agricultural Commission would close, the
militia had already been cut, and the Committee was in favor of the end of the Board of Education. They thought the state should stop supporting winter
quarters for paupers. However, they were not in favor of salary reductions for most state workers. They had no more suggestions. (Digitized from a
microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
