SEE ALSO 53607 House No. 74 Minority report on state expenses [1841] The two men dissented from reducing the militia, borrowing, and burdening counties with one third of the criminal justice expense. It might not be constitutional to burden the counties. It was unwise to reduce the militia when the northeast border was uncertain. Borrowing to pay for borrowing had to stop. The men thought all the expenses mentioned in the majority report were underestimated. They thought an $89,000 deficit was more correct. They went on and on about various liabilities. Finally, they suggested cutting salaries and positions in state government, stop printing anything, and suspend all surveys and commissions.
