House. Comm. on Finance. Minority report on State expenses, 1841
SEE ALSO 53607 House No. 74 Minority report on state expenses [1841] The two men dissented from reducing the militia, borrowing, and burdening
counties with one third of the criminal justice expense. It might not be constitutional to burden the counties. It was unwise to reduce the militia
when the northeast border was uncertain. Borrowing to pay for borrowing had to stop. The men thought all the expenses mentioned in the majority report
were underestimated. They thought an $89,000 deficit was more correct. They went on and on about various liabilities. Finally, they suggested
cutting salaries and positions in state government, stop printing anything, and suspend all surveys and commissions. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of
title originally held by the Library of Congress).
