House No. 58 An Act in relation to main drains or common sewers, 1841. The selectmen could create and maintain sewers which were then the property of the jurisdiction. Anyone who tapped into the sewer had to pay an assessment. The assessment was a lien on the property; if not paid within three months, the property was liable to be sold. The property owner could protest the amount of the assessment. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
