House. Comm. on the J.B. Dunsmoore Petition. Act in regard to hawkers, pedlers, and petty chapmen, 1841
|
|
House No. 46 On February 18, 1841, the Committee directed to consider a petition on Hawkers and pedlers [sic] reported: An Act in regard to hawkers, pedlers, and petty chapmen, 1841. There was a long list of items these folks could not sell, many of which would seem appropriate to the trade. They could sell food and things manufactured in the United States, except those on the list. There were heavy fines for disregarding the rules and anyone could rat them out for half the fine.
