SEE ALSO 53511 House No. 44 A Joint Special Committee reported its pleasure that the entire country wanted the north east boundary question
settled. The Committee devoted over thirty pages to a history of the controversy, with heavy emphasis on historic documents. The Treaty of Ghent was
straightforward, but the British dragged their feet and made all kinds of excuses and evasions to avoid settlement. The Committee exposed "manifold and
wilful errors" in a recent British land survey. Resolves concerning the north-eastern boundary, 1841. Resolved: The right of the United States and
Maine to require a literal execution of the terms of the treaty was unimpaired. Resolved: Let us solve the difficulty to prevent "consequences that
humanity would deplore." Resolved: the recent survey was not helpful. Resolved: Massachusetts should support the rights of Maine. Resolved: the
