House. Comm. on the Judiciary. Report on the Insolvent Act of 1838, 1841
House No. 30 The Committee on the Judiciary issued a report on repealing or amending the Insolvent Law. The Committee preferred not to do anything
at that time because a federal bankruptcy law was expected soon, and the current law had not had time to work. They went over old ground for several
pages and finally decided Section 10 of the current law was a problem. An Act in addition to an act for the relief of insolvent debtors, 1841. The
provisions of the law could apply to debts of $200 or more. At the first creditor meeting, the debtor had to supply everyone a list of his assets.
The debtor could not give preference to a creditor. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
