House no. 27 On February 8, 1841, the Committee on Education, in response to an order, issued a report: The Committee had considered whether it
was necessary to have a law giving schools the power to dismiss students who disrupted school. No; the Committee felt the school committees already

Ordered, that the Committee on Education consider the expediency of passing a law, by which school teachers (with or without the consent of the prudential committees) shall have power to dismiss scholars, from our town schools, for bad behavior.
