House. Comm. on Retrenchment. Act Establishing the salaries of the clerks in the Supreme Judicial and other courts, 1841
House No. 18 The Committee on Retrenchment reported: An Act establishing the salaries of the Clerks in the Supreme Judicial and other courts,
1841. Each clerk would retain his salary as listed in the Revised Statutes. Any fees collected that were more than that salary had to be paid to the
county treasurer each January 1. House No. 70 The Committee on Retrenchment reported: An Act establishing the salaries of the clerks of the
Supreme Judicial and other Courts, 1841. Each clerk had to return any excess fees over his salary to the county treasurer in January of each year.
Bracketed text gave slightly different rules for Suffolk County. The Act was returned to the Committee with a request for actual data on fees and expenses.
On March 3, 1841, the information was provided for four years for most, but not all, counties. The fees vacillated by several hundred dollars from
one year to the next, with expenses more stable. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
