Senate. Comm. on Public Charitable Institutions. Report, 1841
|
|
Senate No. 52 The Committee on Public Charitable Institutions had visited the Eye and Ear Infirmary, the Perkins Institution for the Blind, and the State Lunatic Hospital and submitted its report. The Eye and Ear Infirmary was still outstanding. It served 710 people in the year ending October 1840, mostly for diseases of the industrious poor. The Lunatic Hospital was also doing well. It still focused on the good use of the patients' time. Its farm was doing very well and the Committee recommended $500 for the purchase of more land. The Perkins School was also doing an excellent job; the Committee was gratified by the fine showing of all the institutions and that public funds were so well spent. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
