Senate. Comm. on Agriculture. Act for weighing grain, 1841
Senate No. 27 On February 10, 1841, the Committee on Agriculture reported a bill: An Act to provide for weighing grain, 1841. No grain could be
sold without first being weighed. The act set the standard weight of a bushel of various grains, e.g., a bushel of wheat had to weigh 60 pounds.
There were fines for short weights. There were also exceptions. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
Title:   Ordered, that the Committee on Agriculture be directed to inquire into the expediency of so amending the law regulating the sale of grain, as to prevent fraud in the measurement of the same.
