House. Comm. of the Judiciary. Opinion of right to vote, 1840
|
|
House No. 68 The Speaker of the House was directed to ask the Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court if a male over 70 [with certain other requirements], but had not been taxed for the past two years, eligible to vote? The opinion of the Court was not in this document. The Committees on the Judiciary and Probate & Chancery thought that such a person, who had no taxable property, could vote, but if such a person did have taxable property, but had been exempted by the assessor, could not vote. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
