House No. 61 On March 17, 1840, a committee of five men reported there really was nothing more to be done about Massachusetts' claim for
restitution of state money spent to fight the War of 1812. After several long examinations, a sum had been allowed in 1839; the Senate appropriated the money,
but the House struck it out. Resolves concerning the Massachusetts claim, 1840. Resolve: The people of the Commonwealth had cause for complaint.
Resolve: Congressional inaction was a violation of justice. Resolve: the Governor will pass these resolves on to the Congressional delegation.

Ordered, that Messrs. Walley, of Roxbury, Waters, of Salem, Williams, of West Springfield, Clapp, of Belchertown, Swasey, of Lynnfield, be a committee, with such as the Senate may join, to consider whether any, and if any, what farther measures can be taken to secure an early adjustment of the claim held by this Commonwealth against the general government, for services rendered during the last war.
