Joint Special Comm. on the Boston and Providence Rail-road. Report, 1840
Senate No. 50 Report of the Joint Special Committee appointed to investigate the doings of the Boston & Providence Rail-road Corporation. The
Committee wanted to see if the interests of the Commonwealth had been attended to as the company completed the southern end of the railroad. The
Committee developed a list of questions for the company, held at least one hearing, and visited the southern terminus. The Committee believed the railroad
had made injudicious arrangements for the wharfage, land, and transportation of goods at the terminus. However, there had been considerable turnover in
the Board of Directors, so the committee hoped for better management in the future. Then followed the questions, correspondence, oral interviews,
lists of employees and their pay, and records of the long negotiation for the southern land. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held
by the Massachusetts State Library).
