Joint Select Comm. on Steamboats. Resolves, 1840
Senate No. 31 On February 22, 1840, the Joint Select Committee submitted new Resolves on steamboats: Resolves concerning steamboats, 1840.
Recent losses had shown that existing protective laws were insufficient. The recent federal laws on inspectors were being subverted. Steamboats carrying
passengers should not be allowed to carry combustible freight at the same time. The amount to be paid to the estates of victims was defined. The
United States government should consider placing mail contracts with those boats prohibited from carrying combustible freight. (Digitized from a
microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
