Special Joint Comm. on Cashiers to Report Shareholders Names. Act concerning taxing of stock corporations, 1840
Senate No. 26 On February 18, 1840, a Special Joint Committee submitted An Act concerning the taxing of the stock of incorporated companies, 1840.
It would be the duty of cashiers, secretaries, etc. to respond to the request of an assessor of a jurisdiction with the names and number of shares
owned by residents of that jurisdiction as of May 1, but only if asked and only once a year. There was a fine for failure to provide the information.
